Last week I spoke to Gene and decided on a design for the column. The idea is to create a structure that is made up of different size triangles (going with a geodesic dome inspiration) . There of course are some difficulties in this mainly how to built it and out of what material. One possibility is to have a central beam that runs all the way to the top or the roof, and have a metal frame around it that will make up the triangles. I have been working on a model for the base but getting the right angles and triangle sizes is tricky. So I started looking at built structures that resemble the idea for our column and see how they are built. Attached is a photo of a chair and a sculpture that has some of the element thats we want to capture in the column design.
